Ashimolowo Launches 1,130 Free Surgeries and N500m Drug Initiative in Rivers

The founder and senior pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, has revealed intentions to carry out 1,130 free surgical procedures and provide medicines valued at more than N500 million during a six-day community initiative in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
At a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, Ashimolowo mentioned that the event, hosted by his Christ Compassion to the Rural World Foundation, will take place from November 24 to 29 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Igwuruta.
Featuring the Theme "Port Harcourt, This Is Selfless Love," the initiative is the third in a series, coming after comparable efforts in Ikorodu in 2023 and Ibadan in 2024.
As per the religious leader, the Port Harcourt version is becoming the largest to date, with more than 700,000 people anticipated to gain from it.
He revealed that approximately 70,000 individuals will be provided with medical care, mentioning that 1,130 surgical cases, identified prior to the outreach, consist of over 300 thyroid surgeries, more than 200 fibroid treatments, and over 300 cataract operations.
"The medical initiative will last three weeks and take place in various hospitals, such as the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, primary healthcare centers, and military hospitals," Ashimolowo stated.
He mentioned that significant quantities of relief supplies would be handed out, comprising 150,000 bags each of rice, beans, and garri; 100,000 packages of noodles; 20,000 packs of salt, sugar, and cooking oil; 20,000 sacks of soap; 170,000 pieces of clothing, 10,000 Ankara wraps, 25,000 buckets, and 1,000 mattresses for the elderly.
To maintain organization, the stadium will be split into designated areas for young males, young females, older males, older females, mothers accompanied by children, and individuals with disabilities.
Recipients are required to redeem coupons on Monday prior to returning to their assigned areas for the distribution on Tuesday.
Ashimolowo mentioned that over 9,000 volunteers are participating, along with 150 buses organized to carry attendees from rural regions like Ogoniland, Ikwerre, and other far-off areas.
Christian campgrounds have also been reserved to offer lodging for visitors in need.
"Alongside the extensive humanitarian work, the heart of CCRW lies in spreading the gospel. We aim to have more than 30,000 individuals dedicate their lives to Christ. Throughout the night gatherings, there will be miracles, healings, and liberations," he stated.
He further disclosed that 300 law enforcement officers and military personnel have been sent to ensure safety during the event.
A ministerial gathering will take place at the same time, with presenters from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and the United States. Prominent speakers are Pastor Poju Oyemade, Pastor Jerry Eze, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, Bishop Tudor Bismark, Festus Adeyeye, Jonathan Shuttlesworth, and Rev. Steve Mensah.
The Chief Operating Officer of the CCRW, Nasara Katugwu-Washpam, stated that the outreach initiative has enhanced the hospitality, aviation, transportation, and small business industries. Six hotels are completely reserved to house volunteers and visitors from abroad.
"This campaign is more than an occurrence; it is a cause. Its influence will endure even after the show concludes," she stated.
Ashimolowo commended the Rivers State Government for what he termed "unmatched collaboration," particularly in supplying hospitals and medical personnel, and reiterated CCRW's long-term goals to broaden its initiatives across other African nations.
