Central University's 24th Convocation Ceremony

By Desmond MASOPEH
Central University celebrated its 24th Congregation on Wednesday, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah urging graduates to enter the world with intention, bravery, and integrity. This ceremony marked Prof. Dartey-Baah's initial official Congregation speech following his appointment on September 1, 2025.
Speaking to thousands of graduates, families, faculty, and special guests, Professor Dartey-Baah thanked the University Council, staff, faculty, and students for the assistance he has received since assuming his position. He praised the graduating class, referring to the event as the result of "years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance."
He highlighted that the festivities also recognized parents and caregivers "whose efforts and support have brought the students to this point."
Deputy Chancellor reiterates Central University's mission
Professor Dartey-Baah took the opportunity to restate Central University's dedication to academic excellence and leadership development. He personally invited parents to choose Central University as their top option for their children, emphasizing the institution's variety of undergraduate courses such as Architecture, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Business, Medical Sciences, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Theology, and Social Sciences.
"Our faculty collaborate with experienced industry experts to provide students with a solid academic foundation and valuable real-world knowledge," he stated.
He also stated that development of the Christ Temple Campus will continue, aiming to transform it into a top-tier post-graduate center offering programs in Business, Law, Nursing, Theology, and advanced research degrees. He also shared plans to reposition the Kumasi Campus to launch specialized programs designed to meet the region's specific requirements.
"The eagle featured in our logo is more than just a symbol – it represents a dedication to foster leaders who possess clear vision, strong personality, and the bravery to make an impact," he mentioned.
A directive for graduates: meaning, background, and limitations
In his address to the graduating students, the Vice Chancellor presented what he referred to as a directive based on three foundations – Purpose, Context, and Limitations.
He called on graduates to seek meaning through ethical leadership, innovation, and imagination. He also motivated them to grasp Ghana's socio-economic environment and see themselves as solution providers prepared to succeed amid the country's difficulties.
"Knowledge might unlock the door, but it is character that guides you through, and courage that defines your influence," he stated, reminding the graduates that limitations should not deter them, but instead strengthen their determination.
An 86-year-old theology student motivates the event
The event received a historic and emotional moment with the graduation of an 86-year-old man, Mr. James Acquaah from the Theology Department, whose accomplishment captured the admiration of the audience. According to university representatives, his journey exemplifies that learning is a lifelong endeavor.
A call to excellence
Prof. Dartey-Baah ended his speech by once again urging the university community to stay dedicated to outstanding performance and national significance.
"To the graduates: the world is waiting for your input. To Central University: let's keep transforming potential into purpose. And to Ghana: may higher education provide not just access but also a meaningful effect," he stated.
The 24th Assembly honored students who have finished two, four, and six-year courses within the university's different schools and departments.
