A pair manages to warm their house for only £40 each month - by utilizing a data center located in their garden shed.
Terrence and Lesley Bridges, residents of Braintree in Essex, are the first individuals in the United Kingdom to participate in a program that replaces their gas boiler with small computers.
The facility, containing over 500 computer units, produces heat that is subsequently collected and directed into the couple's heating system.
Mr. Bridges, aged 76, was spending £375 each month on heating and electricity for his two-bedroom bungalow, which he lives in with his wife Lesley, 75.
Nevertheless, thanks to the 'HeatHub' data center, created by Thermify, located in their eight-foot by six-foot garden shed, his expenses now range from £40 to £70.
The retired RAFSergeant said, "I no longer need to concern myself with whether I can afford to increase the heating, as I now can."

The HeatHub data center was created by Thermify, while the Bridges were added to the program by their property managers, Eastlight Community Homes.
Mr. Bridges commended the 'environmentally conscious' initiative, which has also involved the installation of solar panels on their roof.
Mr. and Mrs. Bridges, who have resided in the cottage for three years, had the data center set up on December 3, 2024.
Mr. Bridges remarked, "Initially, we considered placing it in the living room but opted against it. We also thought about the garden, but we didn't want to damage the flower beds."
So we had it set up in the shed. The unit is as large as a chest freezer, and we also have the battery and converter.
I'd heard about data centers and was always curious about them. I'm interested because I have grandchildren and I'm thinking about when they grow up.
Mr. Bridges stated, "Keeping them in warehouses is a waste since you're losing all that heat which could be used to warm buildings."
The issue we faced was that the bungalow would be partially warm and partially cold.
The entire cottage is now cozy and there are no areas that feel chilly.
Without a doubt, I would suggest it. The number of people I've talked to, they all wanted to see it.
Because of this, I allowed them to enter and take a look, and they are amazed. I am happy with what we have accomplished. I am hoping it continues further.

Data center technology, like the Thermify Heat Hub, serves as a prime example of how advancements can enhance everyday life and assist in meeting our Energy Performance Certificate goals efficiently.
The trial at Mr. Bridges' residence demonstrates significant carbon reductions and considerably lower heating expenses.
Capable of assisting numerous additional families, we eagerly anticipate collaborating with our partners to expand this program to an extra 50 homes in the upcoming stage of the project.

Supported by the Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund, our goal is to increase production to 100,000 units per year by 2030.
