Earthquake Strikes Near 2 Million in California's Bay Area
An earthquake has shaken CaliforniaThursday morning in the Bay Area, shaking neighborhoods close to one of the most hazardous fault lines on the West Coast.
A 3.2 magnitude earthquake was identified by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) less than 25 miles away from San Francisco at 10:27 AM Eastern Time, a city home to over 800,000 people.
More than 300 individuals in the vicinity of the earthquake's origin in the town of San Ramon indicated they experienced the seismic activity to the USGS.
The earthquake occurred approximately 12 miles from Concord, 19 miles from Oakland, and 31 miles from San Jose, three of the most densely populated areas in the Bay Region, where over 1.5 million residents live.
As per the early seismic reports, the tremors were experienced across the coastal area, extending as far as Oakland, Berkeley, and even crossing the San Francisco Bay.
Although there was a lot of noise, the USGS categorized the tremors as 'mild' and the risk of damage as 'zero.'
Earthquakes measuring between 2.5 and 5.4 on the Richter scale are typically noticeable but generally result in only slight harm, like items falling from shelves.
No injuries or damage have been reported in the vicinity of the earthquake's epicenter or nearby regions.

Nevertheless, tremors in the Bay Area frequently raise worries, as the area is located near the well-known San Andreas Fault.
A small earthquake occurred on Thursday approximately six miles beneath the surface, which is a typical depth for seismic activity in the Bay Area.
A 3.2-magnitude earthquake also occurred directly along the Calaveras Fault, a significant branch of the San Andreas Fault in Northern California.
The San Andreas, stretching 800 miles, extends from Southern California, across the Bay Area, and continues to the northern region of the state. It is a significant tectonic boundary that causes a large portion of the state's earthquake activity.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, the system isn't isolated; it connects to a network of parallel and branching faults, such as the Hayward, Rodgers Creek, and Calaveras, which share some of the tectonic movement and distribute the earthquake hazard throughout the area.
The most significant seismic event along the Calaveras Fault occurred more than 40 years back, on April 24, 1984, with a 6.2 magnitude earthquake.
The USGS has cautioned that the San Andreas Fault might produce an earthquake more powerful than this one, possibly reaching as high as 8.2 on the magnitude scale.
Angie Lux, a project scientist specializing in Earthquake Early Warning at the Berkeley Seismology Lab, had previously expressed to the Daily Mail that she was "fairly confident" a major earthquake would occur in California within the next three decades.
