George Kariuki's family was plunged into grief following the tragic news of their son's unexpected passing.
Kariuki passed away immediately following the reported incident of falling from the fifth floor of an unfinished apartment building.
The relatives of 22-year-old George Kariuki allege that he was forced to his death by a ballast and cement mixer.
Kariuki's father is emotional following his son's passing
The event sparked inquiries into why work was being carried out during the night when the disaster happened.
"I learned that he collapsed around 8 pm. The company is expected to take responsibility for this issue and be accountable for their work. They are a large company. They should be responsible while on the job. They should have experienced personnel present at the site," said John Nyoike, Kariuki's uncle.
It was claimed that the large equipment was being used without a trained operator, leading to more concerns about the lack of protective equipment for employees on the site.
Francis Gitonga, Kariuki's father, struggled to contain his feelings following the loss of his cherished son, with tears streaming down his face.
Kariuki's father reveals his son's weekend schedule
He commended his son, highlighting that he was not only diligent but also a well-organized young individual whose promising future was sadly ended prematurely.
Gitonga also mentioned that his son had been performing low-level jobs to gather funds for paying his school fees for a plant operator training program.
"I was informed around 9pm that my son had fallen. I sent his brother to check on him. He was scheduled to take his exam on Saturday, November 22. He is my third child and was a very decent young man," he said with sadness.
An autopsy was performed at the Kitengela Sub-County Hospital to establish the reason for Kariuki's passing.
What led to Kariuki's demise?
The findings indicated that he passed away due to several skull fractures and severe blood loss following the fall.
The government was requested by Kariuki's cousin, Samuel Maina, to step in and act.
Maina also called on the government to examine construction sites that operate during nighttime, pointing out that numerous workers are injured and some others disappear.
"We are requesting the government to conduct an inquiry," he stated.
