Health workers reported that one attack on a house in Bani Suhaila, located east of Khan Younis, resulted in the death of three individuals, including a young girl, and injured 15 others. A separate incident led to the death of a man and injuries to three people in the nearby Abassan town.
Israeli forces confirmed the attacks but stated they were unaware of any injuries.
Later Thursday, officials from Nasser Hospital mentioned that a fifth Palestinian was killed by Israeli fire in Abassan town as well.
On Wednesday, Israel targeted locations within the area following attacks by members of a Palestinian militant organization on its soldiers. Gaza medical personnel reported that at least 25 individuals were killed, marking the highest death toll since October 29, when over 100 people were reportedly killed.
Hamas described the attacks as a perilous increase in tension and called on Arab mediators, Turkey, and the United States, who facilitated the ceasefire, to step in.
In a statement released later on Thursday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem alleged that Israel is altering the markers that outline the regions it continues to control, breaching the agreed-upon cartographic boundaries, thereby maintaining Israeli authority over more than 50% of the enclave's territory.
Residents informed Reuters that they observed this in the Shejaia neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, mentioning that yellow barriers indicating areas still under Israel's control had been shifted 100 meters to the west. There was no immediate response from Israel regarding the placement of these markers.
Truce Reduces Tension but Hostilities Persist
In the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, where at least 10 individuals lost their lives in a structure that previously accommodated displaced families on Wednesday, Palestinians examined the debris to recover furniture and personal items while emergency personnel continued searching for additional survivors.
"They claim there is a ceasefire, but I remain skeptical. Every day, they announce a ceasefire, which is entirely false," said Akram Iswair, a resident of Zeitoun, on Thursday.
"Missiles hit the displaced and impoverished people. What can we, our women, and our families do?" he said to Reuters.
The truce announced on October 10 in the two-year conflict in Gaza has reduced tensions, allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to return to the damaged areas of Gaza. Israeli forces have withdrawn from urban positions, and the flow of aid has improved.
However, violence has not entirely stopped. Hamas is attempting to regain its influence, with some expressing worries over an actual division of the area, and circumstances remain severe. Palestinian health officials state that Israeli forces have killed 312 individuals in attacks on Gaza since the ceasefire.
Israel reports that three of its soldiers have died since the truce started, and it has struck numerous militants.
The conflict in Gaza started following an attack by Hamas-led fighters on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, during which 1,200 individuals were killed, predominantly civilians, and 251 hostages were taken. Israel's subsequent military response has resulted in the death of over 69,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials, with the majority being civilians.
According to the agreement, Hamas freed all 20 surviving captives from Gaza in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and individuals detained during the conflict by Israel.
Hamas also consented to deliver the remains of 28 deceased captives in return for the bodies of 360 Palestinian fighters who died during the conflict. To date, the remains of 25 captives have been transferred.
Israel has handed over 330 Palestinian corpses, as reported by the local health ministry.
