Health Minister: Young Doctors' Demands Fully Addressed, Open Dialogue Continues

Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani stated that the ministry has addressed many of the requests from young doctors and is currently examining the remaining ones through a broad strategy that considers public financial resources and the worldwide economic climate.

The Minister addressed remarks from parliamentarians on Wednesday night concerning the matter of young doctors during a combined plenary meeting of the Assembly of People's Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Districts, which focused on the 2026 Ministry of Health budget.

He stated that "the ministry has fulfilled its promises and addressed most of the young doctors' requests," including an initial agreement on salary raises beginning in 2026, as part of discussions among the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

He highlighted that "the ministry tackles this matter with a sense of collaboration, not hollow assurances."

The government's stance is evident: "opposing extortion and the disruption of medical services, while simultaneously pledging to enhance the conditions for young physicians and addressing their valid requests within the boundaries of public financial resources," he emphasized.

Ferjani stated that "the ministry's door is always open for discussion, free from the approach of coercion," emphasizing that public health is a boundary that must not be crossed.

He stated that improving the healthcare system can only be accomplished by the joint efforts of the government, young physicians, and every healthcare worker without exception.

The minister showed his gratitude for the energy of young physicians and their wish to enhance their professional and social circumstances, stating that they are a crucial element in hospitals and play a role in the everyday achievements of the healthcare system.

He said, "The ministry does not view them as an outside entity but as part of the system it aims to improve," highlighting that the government has not neglected its duties toward them.

Ferjani pointed out that improving the conditions for young doctors cannot be done separately from a broader reform of the healthcare system, guided by a concept of teamwork within medical institutions and steering clear of isolated or divided methods.

The health minister also spoke about the additional afternoon shift, mentioning that it will be carried out through a comprehensive strategy that includes all hospital personnel, such as doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, administrators, and staff, ensuring teamwork and enhanced quality of patient care.

He stated that this system embodies the ministry's goal of fostering collaboration inside healthcare organizations and seeks to improve operational effectiveness while placing the public's needs first.

During the conversation about the Ministry of Health's funding, a number of lawmakers spent a large part of their speeches supporting young physicians, expressing their backing for what they called fair and pressing requests.

They observed that the ministry's delays in executing prior agreements had undermined doctors' confidence in governmental bodies and led to increasing conflicts within hospital departments.

Thousands of young physicians staged a demonstration on Wednesday morning outside the parliament, as debates commenced on the Ministry of Health's 2026 budget, aiming to convey their disapproval of the government's postponement of prior commitments and to call for better working conditions within public health facilities.
