Ghana's top payment service provider, Hubtel, has revealed the selection of Patience Akyianu as its new Board Chair. She takes over from Hans Nilsson, who is leaving after ten years of leading the company through significant governance changes and key growth achievements.
Hans has been the head of Hubtel's Board since 2015, guiding the company through ten years of change. During his time, committee structures were established, governance was brought into line with Bank of Ghana regulations, and oversight was enhanced.
He also managed to meet a long-term revenue goal established in 2015 and led independent assessments that positioned Hubtel for possible public market evaluation. Recognized for his coaching approach, Hans promoted data-driven discussions in the boardroom and contributed to building trust in Hubtel's operations and team.
Patience Akyianu offers significant leadership expertise from the banking and insurance industries. She has previously held the position of Managing Director at Barclays Bank Ghana (now known as Absa) and served as Chief Financial Officer for Standard Chartered's Africa regional operations based in Johannesburg. Additionally, she has been an Independent Non-Executive Director at Ecobank Ghana.
