Kanu's Family Warns of Deadly Plot in Relocation to Sokoto Prisons

By Uche Nwosu, Umuahia
The relatives of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the jailed head of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), have expressed concern regarding his transfer to Sokoto Prisons, calling it a move aimed at permanently silencing him.
Emmanuel Kanu, the younger sibling of Kanu, who sounded the alert in Umuahia, voiced concern about the security of IPOB's leader while incarcerated in Sokoto Prison, a facility suspected of housing numerous terrorists.

Princess Emma Kanu maintained that moving the IPOB leader to Sokoto was a hidden scheme to remove him, stating that the family strongly and clearly opposes this transfer.

Kanu is on special medication, which is being handled by a private doctor following his previous health issues. Now, they want to return to the old method of giving him drugs. This is a plan to ultimately kill him, and we are against it.

As a result, he urged the global community to hold President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria's federal government accountable if any harm comes to the IPOB leader.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as previously mentioned, comes from Afaraukwu, Ibeku in the Umuahia Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a declaration released in Umuahia, Governor Otti urged the citizens of the state to stay composed and avoid words or behaviors that could incite fear, aggression, and instability, which might adversely impact the efforts his administration is making to secure Kanu's release.

His statement, "Although the trial that resulted in this conviction continued, I personally contacted the authorities at the highest level, beginning on December 22, 2023, regarding an alternative approach. I need to mention that certain agreements were reached, which relied on the swift handling of the case at the federal high court."

It is notable that this approach was outlined to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during my visit to him while he was under DSS custody earlier this year.
Although Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is allowed to appeal his conviction, I am pleased to let you know that I have initiated and will keep working on the previously agreed plan until he is set free.
I am also pleased to work with other sincere Nigerians who truly wish to see this issue addressed, to advocate for his release using the same diplomatic and dialogue approach with the federal government. Although they did not cause the problem, they can bravely and compassionately resolve it and receive the recognition.

He added that through his column, he had strongly denounced this preventable act and urged that dialogue should be pursued as the most effective method for addressing the IPOB matter.
Characterizing the state's atmosphere as surprising and sorrowful, Governor Otti pledged that normalcy and a peaceful outcome are on the horizon, despite his warning that "politicians who have taken sides to engage in small-scale and unethical politics regarding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's struggles should abandon this approach and instead collaborate with us to ensure his release."
