Morocco's Tourism Summit: Trends, Investment, and Destination Appeal in Casablanca

The second edition of the Morocco Showcase Summit commenced on Wednesday in Casablanca, gathering over 300 investors, specialists, and business leaders for two days of talks focusing on global tourism trends, sustainable investment, and approaches to enhance destination competitiveness.

The conference, hosted by the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Engineering (SMIT) in collaboration with API Events, seeks to establish Morocco and Africa as emerging centers for tourism and hospitality investment.

Today, we come together with a common goal: to speed up investments, encourage innovation, and define the future of tourism in Morocco, Africa, and further afield," stated Imad Barrakad, Director General of SMIT, in his opening speech. He informed attendees that their participation demonstrates "confidence in Morocco—its stability, its vision, and the opportunities it keeps providing.

Morocco's tourism sector keeps progressing, according to Barrakad, who highlighted "the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI" along with the joint effect of government policies and private industry strengths. He pointed out that the industry's growth—increasing investments, consistent performance, and renewed investor trust—stems from "a unified, strategic plan based on innovation and sustainability."

Morocco, he mentioned, is reshaping tourism approaches by establishing a competitive and ethical environment connected to the nation's cultural and geographic identity.

As per Barrakad, recent accomplishments involve significant improvements in infrastructure, increased air travel options, and a revised tourism package. He also pointed out Morocco's new investment charter, which features a dedicated structure to assist small and medium-sized businesses.

Major collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors are facilitating this shift, he mentioned. These involve heritage, cultural, and recreational projects throughout the nation, along with a broad hotel renovation program that includes the restoration of 62,000 beds and the addition of 40,000 more beds, especially in coastal regions.

Barrakad stated that the coming years will be "critical" as Morocco gets ready to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, an event anticipated to boost investments, enhance tourism infrastructure, and broaden visitor services throughout the country. He mentioned that the expected effects will spread across the entire tourism supply chain, including lodging, resorts, dining, and entertainment.

Investment opportunities highlighted

A two-day conference gathers over 300 attendees, comprising investors, decision-makers, and heads of international hospitality companies. Hosts refer to the gathering as a venue for exchanging insights and forming collaborations, emphasizing creativity and new developments in travel and hospitality.

The yearly conference aims to boost tourism investment in Morocco," stated Murray Anderson, the managing director of API Events. "We gather key players from the industry to emphasize the nation's potential for investment and support the initiation of creative and eco-friendly projects.

Anderson highlighted that Morocco's significant structural reforms, extensive infrastructure initiatives, and dedication to environmental sustainability position it as a key location for global tourism investors—particularly considering the momentum driven by the 2030 World Cup.

He highlighted the significance of enhancing public-private collaborations by exchanging knowledge, industry updates, and proven examples. "This is the time to develop new investment prospects," he mentioned.

Anderson also commended SMIT as a "crucial ally" in encouraging investment, highlighting its involvement in developing tourism initiatives, organizing investment prospects, and boosting industry competitiveness.

The summit's schedule includes discussions on worldwide tourism trends, eco-friendly investments, and new tourism offerings, along with sessions concentrating on approaches for developing tourist destinations. Organizers mentioned that it also contains specialized workshops on investment possibilities, funding methods, and market changes.

Participants are engaging in B2B and B2G meetings focused on promoting specific initiatives. Examples showcasing successful local and global cases are also being shared, demonstrating continuous changes in the tourism sector.
