MOWAA Crisis Demands Immediate Action, EPAC Implores Tinubu

The Edo Progressive Advancement Coalition, EPAC, a group of cultural intellectuals made up of professionals and craftsmen, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to quickly intervene in the current crisis affecting the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA) project in Edo State, in order to save Nigeria's image within the global community.
The group issued a statement in an open letter titled, "MOWAA: Restoring Nigeria's Image in the Global Arena," directed to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Obarogie, Coordinator General of the Edo Progressive Advancement Coalition, and Dr. Clinton Odion Omozokpia, Director of Media and Publicity for the group, was presented during the press conference by the Coordinator General.
As per the group, "As a collective of Edo sociocultural intellectuals including professionals and craftsmen, we are deeply distressed by the unfortunate situations that have occurred in the historic City of Benin concerning a world-renowned museum that should be a source of pride for everyone."
The Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA) is an envisioned non-profit attraction that has the potential to reshape Nigeria's image as a key hub in Africa's arts, culture, and tourism sector.
As a group that aligns with Your Excellency's practical approach to Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in order to generate employment for countless unemployed graduates and skilled young people, we feel obligated to join calls, urging Your Excellency to encourage all involved parties to avoid actions that might undermine the Federal Government's goal of maintaining peace and unity within the arts, tourism, and creative industries.

"This is especially significant because the European Union and the global community are closely observing the substantial investments directed towards the museum," the group mentioned.
Professor Obarogie also informed President Tinubu that MOWAA, envisioned as a top-tier institution focused on the study, preservation, and honoring of West African heritage, is not only a Nigerian effort but also a continental endeavor that recognizes the common historical and artistic legacy of West Africa's various renowned kingdoms and civilizations.
Although there have been recent difficulties and the spread of conspiracy theories designed to weaken its trustworthiness, MOWAA continues to be a symbol of cultural diplomacy and an essential tool for restoring Nigeria's image within the international heritage sector.

Clearly, MOWAA has gained considerable global attention and positive reception.
The presence of prominent representatives, such as the Ambassadors from the European Union and Germany, at the museum's first private viewing highlights its reliability and significance in international cultural settings. Despite apparent false information, MOWAA's goals, activities, and intentions are clear to the public.
MOWAA's management has subsequently explained that the preview event was a private technical opening, not an official public launch, and that no assertions regarding ownership of Benin Bronzes or other cultural artifacts have been made.

We support Your Excellency in every action taken to restore our country's reputation and position it as a source of pride for the black race within the fields of arts, culture, and tourism.
"May God and the Edo ancestors bestow upon you the necessary wisdom to successfully complete this journey. Amen," the Coalition added further.
