Open Letter to the President: Nigeria Is Suffering, Leadership Is Needed Now

The surge of attacks spreading throughout Nigeria is no longer just a collection of separate disasters; it has evolved into a national crisis. The weight borne by regular Nigerians has now reached its limit. The recent footage depicting the savage assault on the CAC Church in Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara state, hit close to home. I was raised in a CAC church. It served as the foundation for my moral and spiritual growth. Witnessing a sacred space — a location meant for safety and devotion — being desecrated in this way shatters something profound within our nation's spirit.
Many Nigerians, particularly those who work hard in our cities, have mothers who continue to meet in these churches weekly to pray for them.
Their prayers give us stability. Their belief keeps our hope alive. However, if they can no longer feel secure within the house of God, then where in this nation can anyone truly feel safe?
Mr. President, Nigeria is in flames. Those who placed their trust in you are pleading for your immediate concern.
The past will not recall you based on political maneuvers, party tactics, or individuals joining your cause. It will remember you for your legacy — for what you safeguarded and what you brought back.
Nowadays, the number of killings is overwhelming. Whether in churches, mosques, schools, or on our roads, violence has turned into a daily news story. What is required today is not political speeches but a unified national security plan supported by bravery and decisive action.
Mr. President, anyone suggesting you concentrate on 2027 right now is deceiving you. Governance must benefit the citizens, not turn into a contest of accumulating supporters, deserters, and planners as the country suffers. Leadership involves protecting lives—everything else comes after that.
It's worth emphasizing: the main responsibility of a government is to safeguard lives and possessions. All other accomplishments depend on this base. Without safety, progress is just an illusion.
The kidnapping of the Kebbi schoolgirls, the death of an Army General, and the massacres in Benue, Jos, and other areas should not be turned into political discussion topics. These events require concentrated, firm, and unwavering efforts to eliminate the terrorists who have made Nigeria a place filled with terror.
Your heritage, and the possibility of restoring public confidence, depends on your readiness to face this challenge completely. Any action less than a strong, full-hearted dedication is just a small step. Yet you previously stated that no one should feel sorry for you for accepting this role.
Those statements hold significance. Enter the water, sir completely. Take charge of the battle. Protect the country.
I respect you, but respect should never prevent the truth from being spoken. As someone who studies Tinubu politics, I know what loyalty means. However, I also recognize that loyalty to leadership should never outweigh loyalty to human life.
Nigeria is unable to think, imagine, or move forward while it is suffering. Peace is essential for growth. Without it, the country struggles to breathe.
Mr. President, lower your leg into the water – and complete the task.
