Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has introduced local town criers in nearby communities to enhance immediate security awareness along the Eastern Corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP).

The head of Community and Stakeholders Relations, Dr. Akpos Mezeh, revealed this information at the company's monthly meeting with stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He stated that the involvement of two town criers, one male and one female in each community, was suggested by stakeholders during the last meeting and has now been officially approved.

Mezeh stated that the town criers will have a key role in spreading confirmed information, aiding continuous awareness campaigns, and improving early-warning intelligence.

He observed that the town criers were already enhancing the exchange of information among the 215 host communities in Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, and Abia States, thereby aiding PINL's objective of ensuring continuous operations on the TNP.

Examining the operational performance for the month, Dr. Mezeh revealed that the company has maintained a record of no violations along the Eastern Corridor, allowing uninterrupted production and leading to higher crude oil and gas output.

He mentioned that efforts to sabotage the pipeline have decreased by over 87 percent when compared to 2022, a change attributed to increased monitoring activities and improved relations among PINL, local leaders, youth groups, and community workers.

He stated that community-driven intelligence, which once made up 10.5 percent of security data, has increased to 68 percent, highlighting what he called a major enhancement in local collaboration and mutual accountability.

Mezeh also shared information about PINL's corporate social responsibility initiatives, mentioning that 2,000 women who joined the company's SME support program have finished their data entry and account setup procedures and are waiting for funds to be released before the end of the year.

Furthermore, Mezeh revealed that the company's scholarship program is now 97 percent finished, with recipients anticipated to get their awards before the end of the year.
