A leading global energy technology company, Schneider Electric, organized its Innovation Day Nigeria 2025 in Lagos, showcasing intelligent infrastructure, automation, and energy-saving solutions with the theme "Competitive Edge via Automation and Sustainability."
The gathering that took place on Tuesday united more than 400 clients, 70 C-suite executives, high-ranking government representatives, and business figures to examine how digital advancement can speed up Nigeria's energy transformation and economic development.
Notable attendees were Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, CEO of Ikeja Electric Folake Soetan, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Consul General of France in Nigeria Laurent Favier, and Senior Director of SEforAll Anita Otubu, along with leading executives from Schneider Electric including Zone President of the Middle East and Africa Walid Sheta.
In his opening speech, Country President of Schneider Electric for English-Speaking Africa, Ajibola Akindele, emphasized the company's contribution to powering, automating, and digitalizing Nigeria's energy industry.
"In 2000, our team started with a single person. After twenty-five years, we now have more than 200 employees, providing support for essential infrastructure in energy, power and grid systems, data centers, buildings, telecommunications, and manufacturing," he stated.
Akindele highlighted Schneider Electric's influence, pointing out that the company currently supplies 100 per cent of the nation's electricity generation, 95 per cent of refining activities, and 55 per cent of food production. In Lagos, he mentioned, "There is a 65 per cent probability that the electrons powering your home or office pass through Schneider Electric equipment."
The organization also emphasized its dedication to education and the enhancement of technical abilities. By collaborating with five higher education institutions, such as the University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Yaba College of Technology, Federal University of Technology Akure, and LASTVEB, more than 13,000 young people have received training in technical and energy-related skills. Initiatives like the Bonny Multimodal Centre offer continuous power supply for educational and testing centers, guaranteeing students consistent access to energy.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Power, Adedayo Olowoniyi emphasized the government's commitment to energy sector reforms, updates in policies, and partnerships with the private sector.
"The government is still dedicated to fostering innovation and collaborations that promote efficiency, sustainability, and equitable growth," he stated, highlighting Schneider Electric's role in energy efficiency and digital automation.
The Zone President for the Middle East and Africa, Walid Sheta, highlighted four major global trends influencing the energy industry: the shift towards sustainable energy, digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence, the expansion of infrastructure, and the realignment of global economic power.
He emphasized Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure offerings, mentioning Eko Atlantic City, where the company provided electricity to 99 percent of the city using expandable infrastructure that promotes eco-friendly urban growth.
The Schneider Electric Smart Factory located in Lexington, Kentucky, has been acknowledged as an Advanced Sustainability Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum, having made substantial decreases in energy use, machine downtime, and carbon dioxide emissions; and the National Electricity Company in Senegal, where EcoStruxure technologies reduced recovery time from three hours to three minutes and resulted in annual energy savings amounting to €21 million.
"By integrating digital and electrical approaches, we provide sustainability on a large scale. Our goal is to promote automation, electrification, and digital transformation across various sectors, companies, and households to achieve efficiency and sustainable development for everyone," Sheta stated.
The gathering also included an Industrial Panel Discussion, organized by Business Day, which explored how policy, innovation, and funding can drive Nigeria's shift towards sustainable energy. Participants talked about methods to boost energy efficiency, increase availability, and encourage cooperation among government bodies, businesses, and tech companies.
The Schneider Electric Innovation Day 2025 demonstrated how intelligent infrastructure, energy conservation, and automated systems can transform Nigeria's energy sector, opening up possibilities for industrial expansion, environmental responsibility, and local advancement.
