Security intensifies as town prepares for 600 male asylum seekers
Security is increasing near a military base that will accommodate 600 male asylum seekers, with residents being informed they will receive '48 hours' warning' prior to their arrival.
Inhabitants are protesting against the proposals for Crowborough Army Training Camp in East Sussex, with thousands of individuals gathering weekly for loud demonstrations.
Currently, security personnel accompanied by dogs are observed moving around the area, where an additional protective barrier has been constructed along with several residential cabins.
Kim Bailey, head of the Crowborough Shield group, met with Alex Norris, the Minister of State for Border Security and Asylum, on Wednesday.
Remembering the discussion, she said to the Mail, "We requested seven to 14 days' notice from him." He declined and mentioned something closer to 48 hours.
When they begin, we will remain unaware. They will simply move under the veil of night.
Residents claim they received no prior notice about the plans to relocate the individuals by January and only learned about it when the information was disclosed by a newspaper.
Activists remain convinced they have the potential to halt the initiative and are collecting funds for a legal battle.
"The legal team is highly skilled and examining all aspects," Ms. Bailey stated.
The Wealden District Council needs to be assured by the Home Office that the site is secure, lawful, and meets regulations. Currently, the Home Office is unable to provide evidence of this.
For approximately a week, guards have been walking the perimeter of the camp, according to Ms. Bailey.

I wasn't on the property. I was outside the fence and they were walking around with the dogs, and they approached me and asked, 'Are you okay? Can I assist you?'
I said, 'No, no. just taking a walk.' He was a dog handler.
The complete security team at the camp is set to be fully established within the next week ahead of the arrival of the first group of refugees.
Residents are worried about the growing strain on already insufficient public services and the effect the Home Office's proposal will have on property values.
The Home Office stated that the majority of primary healthcare services will be provided within the camp, although the asylum seekers will be registered with nearby general practitioners.
In response to health and safety issues, the Home Office stated that they are required to confirm that all systems on the site were secure, lawful, and met regulations.
Event planners are seeking 600 male participants to walk through the town wearing numbered shirts during the third weekend of demonstrations this Sunday.
The police force from Sussex mentioned that they have boosted their presence in the town to comfort residents.
Chief Constable Jo Shiner stated, "We are boosting our presence through reassurance patrols, resulting in greater visibility in the town center."
The camp and buildings had previously served as temporary housing for Afghan families who were evacuated during the departure from Kabul in 2021 before they were moved to other locations.
The website boasts a distinguished history that dates back to the war, when it served as a location for Canadian troops getting ready for D-Day.
