Update: 315 Abducted Students and Teachers at St. Mary Catholic School — CAN

The count of students and teachers taken from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwarra Local Government Area of Niger State has risen to 315, compared to the previously reported figureearlier figure of 227.
The head of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), specifically the Niger State branch, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, verified the new number following a review process and final count.
The latest report indicates that 303 students and 12 educators were taken.
Yohanna stated, "After we left the school in Papiri, we chose to make calls, conduct a verification process, and carry out additional investigations into those we believed had successfully escaped, only to find out that 88 more students were also captured after attempting to flee."
We noticed that some parents, whose children we had believed survived the attack, came to inquire about their kids. This sparked our curiosity, and it was then that we conducted a census and found out they had been taken.
This now brings the count to 303 students (both male and female), along with 12 teachers (4 females and 8 males), making the total number of kidnapped individuals 315.
He mentioned that the school had 629 students and pupils prior to the incident, including 430 in the primary level and 199 in the secondary level.
Yohanna also responded to allegations that the school had received advance information prior to the attack. "Additionally, it is highly important that we tackle the matter of previous warnings from the government or security organizations, as promoted in certain circles."
I have just returned to the village tonight... That is not true, we did not get any circular, it must be an idea that came later and a way to transfer responsibility... Is it when there is a government circular telling us to close down that we will now refuse to comply?
He explained that the school is under the ownership of the Catholic Diocese. "The school is owned by the Catholic Diocese and not by any single person... Anyone who made this incorrect statement should be aware that it is a false claim and should retract it or present proof and evidence."
We inquired with the Education Secretary whether he had received a circular, and he denied it... We also contacted the National Association of Private Schools, and they confirmed they did not receive any such circular... We adhere to the law.
He urged for composure. "I would like to ask everyone to stay calm and devout... May the Lord provide swift freedom to those taken and keep His people safe from all threats."
The assault took place in the early morning hours of Friday, as armed individuals, believed to be riding in significant numbers on over 60 motorcycles and supported by a van, attacked the private Catholic school.
