Thugs Attack Fuji Star During Obesere's Funeral in Ondo
Prominent Fuji artist Abass Akande, widely recognized as Obesere, was reportedly assaulted by alleged criminals at a funeral event held at the Government Field in Okitipupa, within the Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State.
The event took place as the performer and his group were entertaining attendees with a show, when alleged aggressors carried out a brutal assault on the fuji musician and his band members.
A guest named Bosede Akinyemi, who saw the attack occur, mentioned that the aggressors entered the place unexpectedly, causing chaos among the attendees who had come to see Obesere's live performance.
As she described, the group came in significant numbers and quickly started creating problems, harassing guests and trying to forcibly stop the music.
Akinyemi shared, "I was at the gathering yesterday. It was a deeply embarrassing incident. These guys suddenly appeared and began creating chaos."
Before we realized, they attacked Obesere's boys and started breaking things. They ruined his musical instruments valued at millions of naira.
She mentioned that the situation deteriorated rapidly, causing numerous guests to run for their safety and stated, “People were shoving each other just to get out. It felt like watching a film, but a very bad one.”
Akinyemi mentioned that she later learned one of Obesere's band members was stabbed while attempting to protect the equipment from additional damage.
Other sources on the scene verified that multiple items of gear, such as speakers, microphones, and various musical instruments, were damaged during the incident.
Several individuals in the performer's crew were reportedly injured while trying to protect their equipment and themselves.
The reason for the attack is still unknown, but locals mention that the group of hooligans is recognized in the neighborhood for causing disturbances at social gatherings and demanding money from performers.
In response to the event, the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, conveyed deep dissatisfaction with the violent disturbance, calling it "unfortunate, humiliating, and entirely unacceptable."
In a statement released on Saturday, Ogunsakin stated that the behavior of the aggressors damages the peace and image of the Ikale people, who are recognized for their kindness and respect towards guests.
I was deeply saddened and strongly disapproving of the unfortunate treatment that Abass Akande Obesere and his team endured.
"This event does not represent the principles we stand for as a community. We must not accept rowdiness or any actions that jeopardize the unity within our local administration," the statement mentioned.
Ogunsakin pledged to the public that the council would collaborate with security forces to locate the offenders and hold them accountable.
Nevertheless, he pledged to implement appropriate measures to avoid such incidents from happening again, vowing to personally contact Obesere and his executive team to express the community's apologies and confirm their security and acceptance in Okitipupa.
Several residents who addressed the matter following the event urged for enhanced community law enforcement strategies, highlighting that the actions of local troublemakers have consistently been a problem in the neighborhood.
They called on officials to take immediate action, cautioning that these violent incidents at public events might deter performers from coming and harm the community's social and economic well-being.
Even though the police have not issued a formal announcement, local security officials mention that an inquiry has started to identify those involved in the attack and damage to property.
