New Ogun CP tells officers to uphold professionalism, respect human dignity

The new Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, has said that under his leadership, as directed by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, any act of indiscipline or lack of respect for human dignity by police operatives in the state command will not be tolerated.
Ojajuni said his administration would not tolerate any form of illegality or impunity, stressing that officers serving in the state must respect the rights of citizens in adherence to extant laws and rules of engagement.
The new CP also called for mutual respect from members of the public, urging them to collaborate with the police to strengthen the security architecture of the state.
He vowed that his leadership would not tolerate criminal acts across the length and breadth of the state, warning those with criminal intentions to either desist or face the full weight of the law.
Ojajuni disclosed this on Monday during his maiden briefing held at the State Police Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, to herald his resumption of office as the new Commissioner of Police for the state.
The new CP said, “The Inspector-General of Police also made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for abuse of office, indiscipline, incivility towards members of the public, violations of human rights, and corruption.
“These directives are sacrosanct, and I assure you that I will implement them fully and without compromise.
“Discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command. Professionalism, respect for human dignity, and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times.
“I enjoin all officers and men to treat members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and the utmost respect. We must remain professional in the discharge of our duties. Respect, as they say, is reciprocal.
“Therefore, I also urge members of the public to engage with the police and other security agencies with civility and mutual respect. See us as partners and work hand in hand with us in our shared responsibility of maintaining law and order.
“Let me reiterate that the few bad eggs within our ranks will not be allowed to drag the good name of the Force into disrepute. I encourage both officers and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any wrongdoing through the appropriate channels.
“The peace and security of the people of Ogun State remain my paramount agenda. I assure you that I will be accessible, responsive, and committed to proactive policing strategies that will guarantee safety across the state.”
He explained that his administrative machinery for monitoring officers and men would be robust, proactive, and uncompromising.
Ojajuni disclosed that in this regard, the Complaint Response Unit would serve as a key channel through which members of the public can report misconduct and hold officers accountable.
He said the CRU is accessible via telephone and social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The new CP said the Gateway Shield App and the Control Room would remain continuously operational to receive complaints, intelligence, and relevant information from the public in real time, noting that these platforms are designed to enhance transparency, responsiveness, and public trust.
He added that the X-Squad and the Police Monitoring Unit would be fully deployed and strengthened to ensure internal discipline and professional conduct among officers and men, stressing that there would be no safe haven for misconduct.
The CP pledged that his administration would be inclusive, assuring that all stakeholders would be given a sense of belonging towards achieving a safer state collectively.
He stated, “We will deepen collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, the media, and other security agencies.
“Fairness, justice, and equity will guide all our actions. I therefore implore members of the public to continue to support the police by providing credible and timely information that will assist us in effectively combating crime.
“To the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State Command, I charge you to brace yourselves for the task ahead. We must work with renewed vigour, discipline, and unity of purpose to achieve our collective goals.
“I also assure you that, as a welfarist, your welfare will receive the utmost priority under my leadership. It is my great pleasure to work with you as colleagues again.
“To the entire citizens of Ogun State, there shall be unrelenting efforts to sustain the existing peace as well as ensure a peaceful and secure state.”
