Bandit Attacks: Ekiti Gov Convenes Security Chiefs, Guarantees Resident Safety
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has pledged to the people that the state is safe, calm, and secure, emphasizing that his administration has implemented firm measures to enhance intelligence collection and increase monitoring throughout all borders and neighborhoods.
He mentioned that his government has also made sure that criminal groups cannot find any area within the state to carry out their activities.
Oyebanji provided the assurance at his residence in Ikogosi-Ekiti on Thursday, just after meeting with leaders of security agencies in the state, following recent incidents of banditry in adjacent Kwara and Kogi States.
He mentioned that his administration would not ease up on gradually expanding the state's security system, noting that the meeting was a part of continuous initiatives to protect Ekiti from possible dangers and enhance cooperation and coordination among agencies.
Stressing that the safety and welfare of residents were his top priority, Governor Oyebanji mentioned that he had ended his vacation to meet with security officials directly due to recent events in certain areas of the country.
He stated that every possible effort is being made to prevent Ekiti from turning into a haven for lawbreakers.
Praising the security agencies for their cohesion, expertise, and dedication to safeguarding the nation, the Governor urged citizens to assist the agencies by providing reliable information, emphasizing that public involvement is still essential for the effectiveness of security efforts.
The Governor also praised President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making every possible effort to ensure the nation's stability.
He stated, "Well, we were elected to serve the public, and even though I was on leave, given the current situation at our borders and in neighboring countries, there was a necessity for me to end my break early, return home, and meet with our security leaders. We recently held a meeting where they updated me on their actions, and I am very thankful for their professionalism and for safeguarding the nation. Therefore, I feel at ease and reassured by what they have shared with us."
They have guaranteed us that the State will be safeguarded, and whatever is necessary to ensure this, we will keep providing it to them.
From our perspective, Ekiti State is calm, and we are progressing as planned. Many of these matters cannot be addressed here.
But we are on the right path and content with the reports we have obtained, and they will return to expand security measures across the state. I also urge our citizens to assist us by providing information.
Regardless of their good intentions, the quality of the intelligence they receive is highly significant. If you observe something, report it.
In his comments, Ebenezer Ogundana, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Issues, praised the Governor for his forward-thinking strategy in tackling security challenges within the state.
He mentioned that the Governor's choice to shorten his vacation in order to meet with the service leaders showed a strong dedication to safeguarding the lives and belongings of people in Ekiti.
General Ogundana stated that these forward-thinking actions have helped Ekiti gain a reputation as the most secure state in the nation, highlighting that ongoing initiatives are underway to maintain the state's safety and stability.
