N'Central APC Forum Urges Mutfwang's Exit

The All Progressives Congress, North-Central Forum has once more called on Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to switch allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling APC, pointing to recent political changes that they believe support this decision.

A fresh appeal was issued on Thursday in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State, during the forum's third-quarter gathering of the year.

In a statement released toThe PUNCH, The forum's Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, stated that the request for Governor Mutfwang to leave the PDP and join the APC was grounded in political analysis and forecasts conducted prior to and following the 2023 general elections.

Referring to the forum as impactful, Zazzaga mentioned that the forum's political efforts led to several beneficial results, such as the creation of the North-Central Development Commission and the reappointment of the APC National Chairmanship to the North-Central region.

He stated, "Among all our appeals, one that is notable is our ongoing request for Governor Caleb Mutfwang to join the APC—a call we started in 2023," Zazzaga said.

Even though other political groups are now starting to repeat the same message, it is true that we were the first to issue this call, driven by our political wisdom, investigative understanding, community organizing efforts, and dedication to enhancing party frameworks.

Zazzaga encouraged the governor to align with his administration's slogan, "The Time is Now," by affiliating with the APC.

"All is now prepared for him to proceed. His positive actions and worth will be more recognized and influential if he becomes part of the APC," he said.

Zazzaga stated that the forum's ongoing popularity stems from Governor Mutfwang's forward-thinking approach to leadership, which, according to him, matches the APC's focus on development.

Being part of the APC will put him on the same level as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has demonstrated sincere interest in Plateau State and has been striving for its progress," he said. "It will also enable Governor Mutfwang to work more efficiently with his colleagues in the North-Central region who are members of the APC, to achieve common objectives for regional and state development.

The head of the forum also highlighted that the majority of lawmakers from Plateau State belong to the APC, emphasizing that alignment between the executive and legislative branches of government would improve governance and enable more effective handling of security and development issues.

In the meantime, Zazzaga ignored the opposing opinions inside the APC from those who are against Governor Mutfwang's possible switch, calling them short-sighted and lacking strategic thinking.

In October, Mutfwang disclosed that he was facing pressure to leave the PDP and align with the APC.

"It is not a falsehood when they also exert pressure on me. However, I informed them that only two individuals could authorize me to switch parties. One is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people," he stated during a speech at an event held at the Government House on October 27.

The situation arises as the PDP keeps losing important members, such as governors and National Assembly representatives, to the APC before the upcoming general elections.

Former PDP governors who switched to the APC recently include Sheriff Oborevwori from Delta State, Governor Umo Eno from Akwa Ibom State, Governor Duoye Diri from Bayelsa State, and Governor Peter Mbah from Enugu State.

It is thought that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, is in the process of finalizing plans to leave the PDP and join the APC.
