Ekiti Guber: PDP Candidate Seeks Unity Among Disillusioned Members

...promises to fight against saboteurs in PDP
The PDP candidate for the 2026 governorship race in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has urged the healing of all dissatisfied party members to foster unity before the upcoming election.
Oluyede stated that his selection as the party's standard-bearer demonstrated the PDP's readiness to compete and secure victory in the June 20, 2026, election, emphasizing that supporters need to remain united to attain success.
The candidate addressed the party headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the state's capital, at a stakeholders' meeting and the launch of new state executives, during which party officials expressed full backing for Oluyede's candidacy.
He showed confidence in overcoming the candidate from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and current governor, Biodun Oyebanji, stating that the residents of the state are fed up with the claimed inadequate performance of the current administration.
A physician who transitioned into politics urged the state party leadership to establish a reconciliation committee in all 177 wards within the 16 Local Government Areas, aiming to unite all dissatisfied members in pursuit of the party's success in the coming year.
The candidate urged party members not to lose hope amid the ongoing crisis affecting the national headquarters, promising that the PDP would endure and emerge stronger to confront the APC, stating, "we will fight against the efforts of a small group trying to undermine our party in the state."
He stated, "We must address every member who is dissatisfied with the results of our primaries, as we are prepared to secure victory in next year's election; our rivals are anxious."
Within the 16 LGAs, we must connect with the community to ensure everyone is aligned and collaborates in harmony.
Our party has been in a slump for eight years. Isn't it time we made peace? We need to make peace with ourselves, we need to make peace with our current situation, which is that we are worse off than we were eight years ago.
The state is full of incomplete projects, and our GDP has declined; I don't see anyone who can tell me they are satisfied with the current situation. Therefore, we must unite and enhance our living standards, and we will become a state that generates wealth under our leadership.
In speaking, the party chairman, Tunji Odeyemi, along with other party officials, announced their backing for the candidate and urged all involved parties to collaborate in ensuring a PDP victory in next year's election.
Odeyemi rejected claims that the party is no longer active in the state, stating, "we will prove the skeptics wrong by showing that PDP is present and prepared to win, as our candidate is ready and competent."
