A company named M3 International Nigeria Limited has requested President Bola Tinubu to urge the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to settle and provide compensation for the delays and refusal to pay for a project carried out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
In a statement signed by Mallam Muktar Sani representing M3 International, the company claimed that following the contract's execution on October 2, 2002, and after FAAN issued a confirmation letter acknowledging the completion of the contract, FAAN has not made payment for the work performed.
The company also mentioned that it secured a loan from First Inter-state Bank Plc at an annual interest rate of 35 per cent via a third party (African Cultural Company International Nig Ltd) to carry out the contract, and because FAAN failed to make payments, the company has incurred further losses.
A portion of the statement mentioned that "on May 28, 2002, FAAN granted our company a contract to build the wall face at the Bush Canteen Area of Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja."
Our organization finalized the implementation of the mentioned agreement on October 2nd, 2002, and FAAN provided a confirmation receipt letter regarding the completion of the contract. Before the contract was carried out, our company secured and acquired a loan from First Inter-state Bank Plc at an annual interest rate of 35 percent through a third party (African Cultural Company International Nig Ltd) to carry out the agreement.
Following the completion of the contract, FAAN intentionally refused and ignored paying our company its due amount, which caused significant difficulties for our company as we were unable to repay the loan we had taken to fund the contract. At the same time, the interest rate of 35 percent per year kept increasing, leading to continuous pressure from the bank.
Simultaneously, we experienced psychological distress. Our company sent numerous appeal letters to FAAN requesting payment under the contract, but without success. Additionally, we hired solicitors to write to FAAN, yet there was still no significant outcome. Due to ongoing harassment from the bank, our company sought assistance from the Public Complaints Commission on April 1, 2011, and the Bureau for Public Procurement as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission on March 1, 2012.
While presenting their requests, the company stated, "Mr. President, our plea to you, your assistance, and all Nigerians is to consider the matter of interest, as we are being oppressed and continue to pay our lenders, the costs we have incurred, and the mental distress we are experiencing. We urge FAAN to reimburse our company for the interest we are still facing, the expenses we have borne, and the psychological suffering we are enduring."
