Four Suspects Killed in Police Gunfight in Delta

Four individuals suspected of robbery were killed in a firearms confrontation with members of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) from the Delta State Police Command.

This information was included in a signed statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, with copies provided to journalists in Warri on Friday.

The statement mentioned that, according to reliable intelligence on November 19, 2025, members of the CP-SAT moved in around 8:30 pm to raid a criminal sanctuary located on the edge of Panama Layout, Ughelli, which was recognized as the headquarters of a violent group linked to several serious offenses within Ughelli North LGA.

Four individuals were taken into custody, including Peter Ejenekevwe (31), known as Calamity (the gang's leader); Clever David (35); Chukwuemeka Gospel Onuchukwu (29); and Onome Collins (32).

During questioning, the suspects admitted to the robbery and murder of Anthony Igoroko Omowho in Ekredjebor on 11 November 2025, acknowledging they robbed him and his wife, followed him to Saint Nicholas Hospital, and killed him with a stab after robbing the nurses working at the time.

They also admitted to stealing from a POS operator and her husband on the same day, causing harm and sexually assaulting the victim's 18-year-old sister-in-law.

A Police spokesperson mentioned that the initial inquiry prompted the team to proceed deeper into the bush, where the following objects were found: two homemade long firearms, 23 live bullets, three locally made short guns, and two keys for a Lexus 350 jeep, which resulted in the retrieval of the victim's car (Registration Number KUJ 788 DR).

The police statement said, "As they were leaving the forest, the officers were attacked by suspected gang members but managed to defend themselves using stronger weapons."

During the confrontation, the four suspects were shot by the escaping criminals and later declared dead at General Hospital, Ughelli.

Regrettably, a police officer was harmed during the confrontation and is currently undergoing medical care.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the suspects have been taken to the morgue, and the inquiry is still in progress, the PPRO stated.

In a separate incident, on 18 November 2025, around 16:00 hours, the Divisional Police Officer for the Agbarho Division was informed of a report stating that at approximately 03:00 hours on the same day, five armed individuals forcibly entered a home located in Uvwiama New Layout, Agbarho Community, while the resident was asleep.

Two of the suspects are said to have entered the bedroom, while three others remained on watch outside. The armed individuals reportedly shot through the window upon seeing the resident holding a machete for self-defense. A 43-inch Hisense television and additional electronic devices were damaged in the incident.

After receiving the report, DPO Agbarho Division, CSP Pius Eredei, promptly sent out agents and organized an immediate response, collaborating closely with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). Through continuous search activities in the region, the team managed to detain Victor Peculiar 'm', 19 years old, who is considered a major suspect in the incident, and also recovered a locally made double-barrelled short gun during subsequent investigation. The suspect is currently in custody and has provided helpful information. Initial investigation is still underway.

In the meantime, State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has referred to the successes as "a clear indication of the Command’s improved operational skills and its strict approach toward violent criminals."

The CP requested residents to "stay alert and keep supplying accurate and prompt information to the Police," promising that every report will be handled with complete secrecy.
