INEC Denies Fake PDP Meeting Letter, Delays Ekiti Primary

The Independent National Electoral Commission denied a message being shared on social media that alleged the commission had issued an order regarding the results of the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee meeting and the delay of the Ekiti State Congress and gubernatorial primary.
As per INEC, the document, dated November 10, 2025, was incorrectly linked to the Secretary to the Commission.
The voting committee stated that the public should disregard the document, calling it fake and illegal.
The focus of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been brought to a letter that is circulating on multiple platforms, dated November 10, 2025, regarding the decision made by the PDP National Working Committee Meeting and the delay of the Ekiti State Congress/Governorship Primary, claimed to have been issued and signed by the Secretary to the commission.
"The commission clearly states that the mentioned correspondence did not come from the office of the Secretary to the commission, nor through any official channel of INEC," explained the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, in a statement dated Friday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also revealed that preliminary examinations indicated the signature of the commission's secretary was fake.
"The commission reported that initial results suggest the signature of the secretary to the commission was faked by dishonest individuals," the commission said.
The INEC warned political parties, the media, and the public to disregard the document, condemning the spread of misleading information.
"The statement urged the general public, political parties, and the media to completely ignore the contents of the mentioned communication, as it is fabricated," the statement noted.
Eta-Messi characterized the action as a conscious effort to deceive Nigerians.
"It stated that this act of fraud and the distribution of fake documents constitute a significant electoral violation and a conscious effort to deceive the public," it mentioned.
INEC also warned those participating in these actions.
"INEC wants to use this platform to urge individuals involved in these pointless, illegal, and harmful actions to stop immediately for the sake of election fairness and harmony," the statement further mentioned.
The committee stated that it is collaborating with security organizations to locate the individuals involved.
"Meanwhile, the commission is working with security agencies to look into this issue and make sure those responsible are caught and brought to justice under the law," the statement ended.
The dispute originated from a letter, viewed by our reporter, written by PDP officials Abdulrahman Muhammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu on November 5, 2025, prior to their removal.
In the correspondence, they notified INEC about the delay of the PDP Ekiti State congress and gubernatorial primary that was initially set for November 8, due to logistical issues.
The INEC, in a statement issued on November 10 and authored by Secretary Rose Anthony, turned down the submission, noting that it failed to satisfy the regulatory rule requiring that notices of party conventions or primaries be jointly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary.
"The commission hereby notifies you that your submission has been rejected due to not meeting the requirements outlined in the Electoral Act," the message stated, highlighting that the postponement notice was not valid.
