Insecurity: Oyebanji Cuts Vacation to Meet Security Chiefs

Frustrated by the security conditions in nearby states, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday ended his vacation early to hold discussions with security officials in his region.
Oyebanji, who claimed that security agencies had promised him the state would be safeguarded, pledged to all that his government would take necessary actions to guarantee the safety of people and assets and stop the entry of criminals.
The governor, who addressed an audience in Ikogosi Ekiti on Thursday, just after meeting with several heads of security agencies in the state, stated that his administration would continue to enhance the security framework within and surrounding the state.
The governor, who reassured citizens that the state was secure, calm, and safe, mentioned that his administration had implemented firm actions to enhance intelligence collection, increase monitoring throughout all borders and neighborhoods, and guarantee that lawbreakers have no area to function within the state.
He stated, "We were chosen to serve the public, and even though I am currently on leave, given the current situations at the borders and in neighboring countries, it is necessary for me to end my leave early, return home, and meet with our security leaders."
We recently had a meeting where they updated me on their activities, and I am very thankful for their professionalism and for maintaining the state's stability. Therefore, I feel at ease and have confidence in what they have shared with us.
They have guaranteed us that the state will remain secure, and whatever is required to ensure their compliance, we will keep providing it.
From our perspective, Ekiti State is calm, and we are making progress. Many of these matters cannot be addressed here. However, we are on the right path and content with the information we have received. These individuals will return to enhance security throughout the state, and I also urge our people to assist us by providing intelligence.
Regardless of their good intentions, the quality of the intelligence they receive is crucial. If you observe something, report it.
Every possible effort is being made to prevent Ekiti from becoming a safe haven for criminals. I urge the residents to assist the security agencies by providing reliable information. The involvement of the community is essential for the effectiveness of security initiatives.
He praised the intelligence agencies for their cohesion, expertise, and dedication in protecting the nation.
The leader also praised President Bola Tinubu for making every effort to ensure the nation's safety.
The Governor's Security Advisor, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retired), commended the governor for his forward-thinking strategy in tackling security issues within the state.
Ogundana stated, "The governor's choice to end his vacation early in order to meet with the military leaders showed a strong dedication to safeguarding the lives and assets of the state's residents."
The security advisor stated that such proactive actions are why Ekiti has gained a reputation as the most secure state in the nation, and mentioned that collaborative efforts are underway to maintain the state's safety and security.
Earlier this May 2025, PUNCH OnlinereportedOyebanji urged the Nigeria Police Force to send more officers to the state in order to improve safety and tackle crime, especially in border towns.
Oyebanji called on the police department to increase its efforts to improve safety, as the state is about to enter the election period.
The governor made the decision in Ado Ekiti upon meeting the new Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 17, which includes Ondo and Ekiti States, Musibau Omolabi.
