  • The Maltese cross disappeared on September 18
  • He was discovered 53 days later and taken to the veterinarian.

A cherished Maltese cross has been finally reunited with his family following seven weeks in the Australian bush.

Little Einstein vanished on September 18 during a trip with his owners,Queenslandpair Jeff and Sue Johns

The pair were located at Anstey Hill Recreation Park close to Houghton., southeast of Adelaide, when Einstein fled into the South Australian bush.

The chances of their pet coming back began to diminish, as Jeff thought the small dog would not be able to endure and might get bitten by a snake.

Nevertheless, by chance, a local family found Einstein on Tuesday.

Following a 53-day solo journey, Einstein was brought to a veterinary clinic in Tea Tree Gully, where the staff verified his identity through his microchip.

Einstein's body weight had decreased by half during the seven weeks he was absent, leaving the staff amazed that he managed to survive independently for such an extended period.

'Throughout my career as a veterinarian, I have never encountered an animal disappearing and remaining in the wild for such an extended period before being discovered,' said Dr. Mark Reeve to 9News.

Veterinarian nurse Billie Small mentioned she began to cry, stating 'it was the most wonderful thing that could happen' when Einstein was eventually located.

Einstein's owner, Jeff, and Sue are overjoyed at the thought of being reunited with their cherished pet soon.

"The first time we encounter him, I'm pretty certain Sue will pick him up and embrace him, then snuggle with him," Jeff said.

They intend to drive down toAdelaideOnce more, to be reunited with Einstein, who will stay at the vet while he recovers.

Einstein's journey is no minor accomplishment, but his 53 days alone is nothing compared to Valerie the dachshund's 529 days in the wild.

Valerie fled from her owners' campsite on Kangaroo Island, located off the coast of South Australia, in November 2023.

She overcame challenges by sustaining herself through nature and demonstrating remarkable survival skills.

Although many did not anticipate her survival after the owners' seven-day search yielded no results, a series of sightings and the sound of her bark maintained a glimmer of hope.

Her continued existence captured global attention, with the New York Times also covering the tale: 'Dachshund Stranded on Australian Island Remains Alive, Yet Hard to Locate.'

The persistent group from Kangala Wildlife Rescue revealed on April 26 that they have finally managed to capture the resilient dog.

Kangala Wildlife Rescue mentioned they covered 5,000km in their search for Valerie, employing traps, incentives, and familiar surroundings to catch the puppy, alongside hidden cameras.
