The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) has emphasized its steadfast dedication to advancing top-tier management standards by organizing the 2025 Management Day Lecture.

The annual intellectual event, hosted at the Oriental Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos, and organized to celebrate global management expert Peter Drucker, highlighted NIM's role in promoting excellence, sustainability, and ethical leadership within Nigeria's public and private sectors.

Under the theme "Sustainable and Mission-Oriented Organizations: ESG, Circular Economy and More," this year's event offered an energetic forum for reimagining the future of leadership within organizations in Nigeria.

Opening the ceremony, President and Chairman of the Institute's Council, Commodore Abimbola Ayuba (Ret.), FNIM, fdc, referred to NIM as the country's emblem and guardian of management excellence.

Ayuba urged the Federal Government to formally recognize November 19 as a national day honoring the management profession, emphasizing that effective management strategies are essential for creating robust institutions and a thriving country.

The Managing Director of Verraki Partners and Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Mr. Niyi Yusuf, in his speech, discussed the growing international influence of ESG standards and the circular economy.

Yusuf highlighted that the worldwide ESG investment market, currently worth US$35.48 trillion, is expected to grow to an impressive US$167.49 trillion by 2034, indicating that sustainability has emerged as a key factor in maintaining organizational significance.

He noted that Nigeria is advancing with current governance frameworks but emphasized the importance of improved enforcement and collaboration, reinforcing the idea that ESG should be seen not as an expense but as a long-term investment in the sustainability of organizations.

Despite recognizing Africa's susceptibility to climate challenges, Yusuf mentioned that the continent has significant prospects for green investments if prompt measures are implemented, stating that Nigeria's challenge extends beyond economic growth to fostering a more robust ethical base.

"Profit keeps an organization running, but purpose keeps a nation strong," he concluded.

A key event of the day was the awarding of Fellowship to esteemed professionals who fulfilled the Institute's strict requirements.

Selected from various areas of the economy, the new Fellows were encouraged to maintain the highest levels of professional integrity and to continue being exemplary representatives of the Institute.

During a significant occasion, the Institute presented its inaugural Honourary Fellowship to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, in acknowledgment of his outstanding leadership and efforts towards national progress.

The honorary fellowship presented to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was accepted on his behalf by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Hundeyin.

The event attracted prominent traditional leaders, former Institute presidents, high-level executives, business tycoons, and individuals from the diplomatic and policy sectors.

The gathering also included the presentation of long-term service awards to employees who had contributed ten years or more to the Institute's development and strategic impact. It was enhanced by cultural performances and various other attractions that enriched the day's activities.

As the 2025 Management Day came to an end, the Nigerian Institute of Management reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical leadership, sustainable development, and world-class management practices via its training sessions, awareness campaigns, and intellectual forums.

The Institute pledged to continue leading the way in creating efficient, goal-oriented, and forward-thinking organizations in Nigeria.
