The federal government has initiated steps to build trust in accordance with the agreement it made with Ogoni leaders as part of efforts to restart oil exploration in Ogoniland.

It was reported that the government had already initiated the rehabilitation of four major health facilities, including General Hospitals located in Eleme, Khana, and Terabor, as well as the K-Dere Health Centre in Gokana.

The Ogoni leaders had called for the creation of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Saakpenwa/Koroma; restoration of the Eleme part of the East-West Road; and evaluation of eligible Ogonis for job opportunities atNNPC Limitedalong with actions targeting vital facilities in Ogoniland.

Although many of the requests had been fulfilled, it was reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent a monitoring team from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), headed by Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, Director of Energy Security; Goodluck Ebelo, Special Assistant to the NSA, and Prince Austin Kabari, Secretary of the Energy Security Working Group, to the location to assist with the remaining demands.

The inspection team is said to have toured important areas including the East-West Road, the Federal University of Environment and Technology campus, medical centers, and the planned location for an industrial park, along with other places, to assess the progress of the work.

Speaking over the weekend, Mene Sunday Kabari-Nule, the Acting Chairman of the Nyo-Khana Area Council of Chiefs and Elders, stated that advancements were being made, and he expressed optimism that the hospital initiatives would assist in addressing health issues in the region.

He stated, "This initiative is intended for the Nyor Khana people, and they are extremely pleased. For Taabaa as a group, it's exactly what they have been hoping for to restore that hospital, and now we have a completely new one. You can sense the joy throughout the community."

He praised the Federal Government for the effort and asked for its quick completion.

He stated, "At this moment, we are satisfied with President Tinubu and the Federal Government for delivering this to us, and we are hoping that God will give them the strength to finish the project on schedule so we can begin utilizing it," he further mentioned.

The head of the Community Development Committee in Taabaa, Elder Prince Neekpoabie, also voiced assurance that the contract, once finalized, would greatly enhance the health of the community.

He mentioned that the project, which had been revived following years of neglect, would address health concerns in the region, and noted that it had already hired numerous local young people, thereby decreasing crime in the area.

"The young people, who had no jobs before, are now working here, which has contributed to lowering crime in the neighborhood," he said.

Additionally, Nwikeh Torue, the Youth President of Taabaa, mentioned that young people in the community were pleased with the government and promised full security for the location, guaranteeing contractors a secure working atmosphere.

"I am here to guarantee the contractors and employees that there will be maximum safety at the location; no one will disrupt their tasks," he stated.

The site's Project Manager, Mr. Azubuike Lucky, mentioned that the community had shown cooperation since the project started, adding that the majority of the workers were local residents.
