Through the integration of Russel Smith's knowledge in industrial additive manufacturing with DICON's well-established position as the country's defense production authority, the collaboration will facilitate the local production of high-performance components, tools, and assemblies utilized in military contexts.
The partnership will also concentrate on fostering the local environment for advanced manufacturing materials, such as the creation of metal powders and filaments that adhere to the rigorous quality requirements necessary for defense and aerospace applications.
Speaking at the event, Major General Babatunde Alaya, Director General of DICON, highlighted the significance of the DICON Act 2023 in facilitating these strategic collaborations:
This partnership with Russel Smith marks a significant milestone in the development of the Military Industrial Complex.
It is a direct outcome of the legal structure established by the DICON Act 2023, and I owe gratitude to the President, Bola Tinubu, for approving this crucial law.
The head of the organization also thanked the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the heads of the military services for their ongoing direction and steadfast backing of DICON, which contributed to its successes.
"I fully back this effort, as it has the potential to revolutionize our national security framework," he stated.

:A major step forward in achieving technological independence and establishing Nigeria's Military Industrial Complex (MIC) has been made, as DICON and Russel Smith have entered into a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The tactical decision involves boosting the local creation of additive materials used in producing essential defense machinery.
She mentioned that the partnership "represents the direct execution of the DICON Act 2023," noting that it enables DICON to work with local specialists to enhance national security via homegrown manufacturing.
At the core of this MoU is the implementation of Additive Manufacturing (AM), also referred to as industrial 3D manufacturing, which will transform DICON's production abilities," Sambo said. "Additive manufacturing technologies allow for quick, on-demand, and local production of intricate parts using high-performance materials like metal alloys and modern polymers.
The official signing event, held on October 20, 2025, was joined by top managers from both companies and highlights a mutual dedication to enhancing local expertise within the defense and production industries.
