An Emirati company, G42, has been granted permission by the United States to import the most sophisticated artificial intelligence chips, according to a statement from the White House that referred to this decision as an example of "deep trust" between the two nations. This approval marks a step forward in turning the largest AI computing corridor between the UAE and the U.S. from plans into reality.
The authorization enables G42 to manage the Stargate UAE project – a 1-gigawatt computing facility being developed by the company for OpenAI in collaboration with Oracle, Cisco, NVIDIA, and SoftBank – and it backs the biggest U.S.-UAE AI campus, featuring a 5-gigawatt capacity, designed to offer fast computing and analysis across the region.
This accomplishment places the UAE as a secure and dependable option compared to American and Asian data centers, reinforcing its position as an emerging global AI center that merges outstanding performance with political confidence, signaling a completely new era in the worldwide competition for technological leadership.
Bing Xiao, the CEO of G42, stated: "This announcement marks a truly significant turning point. Today, we transition from planning to action with determination, establishing a new global benchmark for secure, high-performance computing. The infrastructure we develop in the UAE will be completely replicated in the United States, ensuring that performance and trust are consistent across all locations."
The chips will function within the Regulated Technology Environment (RTE) framework created by G42 and endorsed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, positioning the UAE as the sole nation in the region to implement this degree of adherence to U.S. export regulations.
Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, the head of the UAE Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, mentioned that the decision "demonstrates the strength of the strategic relationship between the two nations. Technology is not only a means for advancement; it serves as a foundation for economic stability, regional security, and sustained collaboration. We are honored that the UAE has emerged as Washington's most reliable partner in this area."
The choice further enhances G42's collaborations with Microsoft, AMD, Qualcomm, Cerebras, and other entities. The firm currently oversees three of the globe's top 500 supercomputers and has recently introduced Maximus-01 in New York, which secured the 20th position worldwide after its launch.
