Russian President Vladimir Putin is probably dissatisfied with this change from Trump. On Friday, he received the peace plan as 'the foundation for a lasting peace agreement.'
Putin emphasized that the content of the agreement 'has not been addressed with us in a meaningful manner'.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated to journalists during the G20 that his concerns were not directed at the United States or Trump, but rather at Vladimir Putin, whom he criticized for declining to support ceasefire agreements.
The proposal for peace introduced by Trump and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has sparked debate among EU nations, as it would permit Russia to maintain control over disputed areas in Ukraine — Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk.
It would also compel Ukraine to transfer additional land in the east that is not yet under Russian control, primarily regions in Donetsk.
The deal also maintains the current battle lines in the Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia, enabling Russia to retain control over nearby Mariupol and establish a direct route to the Crimean Peninsula.
A crucial aspect is that Ukraine will always be excluded from NATO, the military group that Russia has consistently aimed to maintain as a buffer zone.
Trump's agreement on peace incorporates numerous Russian requests, and with his current willingness to engage in further discussions with NATO allies and Ukraine, the chance of ending the conflict by next week is slim.
Ukraine has consistently rejected the idea of ceding territory to Russia, although Zelensky has conveyed to his people that he may not achieve all his objectives.
