Kwahu Council Condemns Palace Intrusion

reaffirms the removal of the former Kwahumanhene

By Ernest Bako WUBONTO

The Kwahu Traditional Council (KTC) has made a statement to the public about recent events, expressing disapproval of the armed attack on the Abene Palace and confirming its complete backing for Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III as the sole officially installed Kwahumanhene.

The sub-chiefs addressed the media in a press conference held immediately following an event on Monday, November 17, 2025, when the former chief, Eugene Asante Boadi, previously known as Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, was reportedly involved in leading a group of armed individuals in uniform to take over the palace, calling the situation unfortunate and shameful.

Kwahu Adontenghene and Chief of Abetifi, Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, clearly confirmed the removal of the previous Kwahumanhene, and stated once again that Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III is the sole rightful Kwahumanhene.

Rejection of the Armed Attack on the Palace

It was first claimed that the operation conducted by the former Eugene Asante Boadi was intended to carry out a court directive.

Nevertheless, the council strongly dismissed the assertions that the raid on Abene Palace, involving armed individuals in uniforms, was intended to legally take over the palace.

The Kwahu Adontenghene stated, "It was an illegal action and our legal team is managing the issue."

The KTC claimed that Eugene Asante Boadi was in charge of the attack, which included the improper handling of the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III.

It was also reported that Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III and six other individuals were taken into custody and brought to Police Headquarters, but they were later set free without any charges being pressed.

"The Council wants to stress that no charges were filed against Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III or the Nanahemaa, and they were later set free," Adontenghene repeated.

The Council's legal team is currently managing the issue, and a petition has been submitted to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) requesting an inquiry into the raid and the reported attack on the Nanahemaa and other individuals within the palace.

The Council outlined a sequence of events that resulted in the present crisis, mentioning that Eugene Asante Boadi was officially installed in 2017 and subsequently became Chairman of the Board of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) in 2021.

Nevertheless, in September 2024, a formal complaint was submitted to the former President of Ghana, Nana Addo, by entrepreneur Collins Darkwah Aboagye, claiming that Asante Boadi had demanded GH₵2 million along with a GH₵50,000 payment, under the pretense of assisting in obtaining a loan from the ADB for his business.

Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III emphasized that at the same time, the KTC launched its own investigation, which resulted in his removal.

New Dawn for Kwahu

Afterward, the Kingmakers of Kwahu installed Baffour Akoto Osei, a Chartered Civil Engineer from the Etena clan of Abene, as the new Kwahumanhene, known as Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, on January 25, 2025.

He was officially removed on March 8, 2025, during a ceremony attended by notable leaders and officials, affirming his position as the sole recognized Kwahumanhene.

Top Court Dismisses Legal Appeal

The Council also reviewed current legal issues, mentioning that a case submitted by Eugene Asante Boadi at the Koforidua High Court was dismissed following a unanimous ruling from the Supreme Court on July 8, 2025.

Kwahu Twafohene and Kwahu Tafohene, Nana Kwasi Opoku Mintah II, stated that although Mr. Asante Boadi has obtained an injunction from the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs (ERHC) against the new chief, an appeal has been submitted against this injunction, which, according to ERHC regulations, acts as a suspension, indicating that the order cannot be implemented until the appeal is resolved.

Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, in her comments during the press briefing, called on residents of Kwahu, both those living within the region and others outside, to stand up and seek fairness and structure in the chiefdom conflict for future generations.

She described her traumatic experience and demanded justice, along with enhanced safety measures in the neighborhood to avoid such incidents from happening again.
