Millions of naira in valuable items were lost due to the fire at Ayetoro community market in the Oluyole local government area of Oyo State.
The event that took place at midnight has left the impacted merchants in a state of shock, as they have not yet reconciled themselves to their losses.
The people, along with help from the State Fire Services personnel, managed to prevent the fire from reaching the homes in the area.
The head of the Oluyole local government, Akem Olatunji, expressed his condolences and urged increased awareness and care, especially regarding electrical use in their respective stores.
Olatunji warned the merchants about the coming season, which he characterized as consistently arid and unforgiving, prone to ignite into a blaze with even the smallest spark.
He pledged that his administration would offer the required assistance to impacted merchants, while taking steps to enhance cooperation with the state government's relevant departments for additional help.
Olatunji also mentioned that initiatives have already started in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to organize assistance for all those impacted.

I will also communicate with the appropriate state government officials, especially OYSEMA, to determine what actions can be taken to assist the victims.
It is crucial that I point this out, so please pay attention: all electrical power sources to your shops and businesses will be completely disconnected after the day's operations end.
"We recognize that some individuals might seem insignificant, but we need to think about the potential harm our neglect could bring to others. We should always make an effort to switch off our electricity when we return home after a day's work," Olatunji emphasized again.
Top companies alternated in recognizing the chairman's prompt reaction.
The Babaloja of Ayetoro, Alhaji Isiaka Omogboye, stated that the community is lucky to have a leader who consistently appears when needed.
Commander Babaloja, Alhaji Mukaila Olalere, who also showed appreciation to the chairman, prayed for Olatunji, and praised his continuous dedication to the welfare of Oluyole's people.
The Iyaloja of Ayetoro, Mrs. Ojolowo Folashade, also thanked for the kindness and quickness with which the chairman reached the location following the event.
Several traders impacted by the fire, including Mrs. Rashidat Taofeek, Mrs. Iyiola Monsurat, Mr. Kareem Toheeb, Mrs. Adeyemo Abioaum, and Mr. Hammeed Raji, in their individual statements, described how the fire started just after midnight and quickly spread before it could be controlled.
Although they were sorrowful, they expressed gratitude to the chairman and community officials for arriving promptly, and they pledged their support in working with the government to resolve the issue.
Among those present at the site of the fire were the Leader of Oluyole Legislative House, Hon. Taofeek Azeez, Special Adviser on Works Hon. Akangbe Abel, PDP leader Mrs. Folashade Ayoola, along with other market and community figures.
